SAN ANTONIO MAN CONVICTED OF EBAY SCAM

(LAREDO, TX) United States Attorney Michael Shelby announced today that Michael
Justin Shoffner, 23, of San Antonio, Texas, has been convicted of wire fraud
arising from a scheme to defraud bidders on Ebay's Internet auction website. At
a hearing held yesterday before United States District Judge Micaela Alvarez,
Shoffner pleaded guilty to the federal charge, and now faces a maximum sentence
of 20 years in federal prison without parole and a $1million fine as punishment
for the conviction.

At yesterday's hearing, the United States presented evidence proving that
between August 1, 2003, and December 1, 2003, Shoffner knowingly devised a
scheme in which he advertised Rolex watches for sale on Ebay and defraud the
Ebay bidders by taking their money for the watches, but never delivered the
watches to the "winning" bidders. Shoffner represented himself to bidders as a
well known South Texas jeweler. There were two such "winning" bidders; one of
whom resided in Greece and the other in Pennsylvania at the time they placed
their bids for the watches. The victim in Greece sent Shoffner $5,100, and the
victim in Pennsylvania sent Shoffner $4,200, per Shoffner's instructions via
electronic mail to a bank account in Laredo, Texas. Shoffner took the money, but
never delivered the Rolex watches, or anything else, to the "winning bidders".

The scam was discovered when the "winning bidders" contacted the well-known
South Texas jeweler about their "purchase". The jeweler contacted the Federal
Bureau of Investigation in Laredo, Texas. FBI agents launched an investigation
that ultimately resulted in the identification of Shoffner as the culprit
responsible for the Ebay scam and his arrested and indictment.

Judge Alvarez has set sentencing for July 7, 2005, in Laredo.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Arthur R.
Jones.
